Camp War Eagle Sessions 2013

Please Note: SUMMER STAFF SESSIONS ARE DIFFERENT THAN CAMPER SESSIONS. 
Applications will be accepted for employment on the following basis (A) All 7 Sessions (B) 1 month minimum session commitment

***All counselors who are hired for six weeks or more may spend up to two weeks as a member of the Camp War Eagle S.W.A.T. Team (Servants Working All Together).  This experience strives to provide (1) an opportunity to develop a more servant-hearted attitude as you work with fellow counselors in Camp support activities which may include manual labor or behind the scenes work, (2) an opportunity for personal and spiritual growth through an in-depth biblical study of servanthood, and (3) an opportunity to charge or recharge your mental, emotional and spiritual batteries to better enable you to serve your campers during other sessions.  Final determination as to placement on the S.W.A.T. Team is at the sole discretion of the Camp War Eagle staff.

Camp War Eagle Activities

**DO NOT COMPLETE THIS SECTION IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PARTICIPATED IN A CAMP WAR EAGLE INTERVIEW**

Listed below are activities usually offered at Camp War Eagle.    Please go through each list and check all of the acitivities that you have taught or in which you have participated. It is NOT necessary to check an activity if you have no proficiency whatsoever.  Please explain your involvement with any activity marked with an "*" at the end of each section.


**Current CPR certificate is a requirement for employment at Camp War Eagle.  A certification course will be offered at Camp War Eagle during orientation.

Essential Functions of Camp War Eagle Staff

The Camp War Eagle program is very active and physically challenging for staff members. Regular attendance and active participation in daily activities is a requirement. Daily activities include, but are not limited to, swimming, hiking, running, jumping, contact sports, games and other children’s activities, most of which require physical stamina.  Most activities are conducted outdoors. A successful staff member must be able to perform these essential functions, which include but are not limited to the following:

  • Possess mental and emotional stability and physical strength and endurance required to maintain constant 24 hour supervision of campers ages 7 to 17 for a five to twelve week time period, depending on contract. 

 Mental and emotional stability include but are not limited to

o    Ability to insure that appropriate procedures are followed in dealing with abuse or discipline problems, as outlined during orientation and

o    Ability to provide adequate support and timely referrals to appropriate staff regarding personal issues such as eating disorders, mental illnesses, tragedy, etc.


Physical strength and endurance include but are not limited to

o    Auditory and visual ability to supervise a group of children and insure their safety and well- being at all times and respond to critical incidents as outlined during orientation;

o    Ability to work outdoors in the heat of the summer or inclement weather for extended hours;

o    Ability to reside in non air-conditioned, rustic and remote living quarters;

o    Ability to work in remote areas for extended periods of time with little to no access to food or medical attention;

o    Ability to supervise and actively participate in daily camp activities and weekly trips, which include, but are not limited to hiking, running, jumping, contact sports, games and other children’s activities such as swimming in a lake (e.g., when at the waterfront area, if not lifeguarding, staff members are expected to be IN the water, swimming and playing with kids, while providing ACTIVE supervision);

o    Actively participate in at least one hour every day of rigorous team competition and two to three hours of individual instruction, most of which require physical stamina and includes participation in contact sports.  Active particiption in these activities can include, but is not limited to, frequent running, jumping, cutting, pivoting, throwing, standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, reaching at, above and below shoulder  level, pushing, pulling, twisting at the waist, handling, gripping, grasping; and

o    Ability to lift and move heavy equipment weighing 25-50 pounds (i.e., coolers, canoes, program equipment, etc.).

 

  • Ability to attend a mandatory 8-day orientation and training program at the beginning of the summer.  During the orientation, the staff member must be able to obtain current certification in CPR/First Aid or have the ability to obtain such certification prior to orientation by an accredited agency.

If a chronic medical condition(s) exists, the staff member must be capable of performing all functions listed above and capable of “self-management” of his or her own condition.

If surgery has been performed for orthopedic repairs, the staff member must be able to perform all functions listed above and must use supports (braces, knee sleeves, etc) during all physical activities as directed by physician. A release from the physician must be sent to camp if the device is not necessary.
