IRA John Chorlton Manning Public Service Award

The IRA John Chorlton Manning Public Service Award is an annual non-monetary award given annually to honor a professor of reading education who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to public education. 

Deadline for submission is November 15, 2013.

Eligibility Guidelines:

Nominees shall be IRA members who are affiliated with a college or university who have demonstrated a commitment to public education who spends significant time working with public school teachers and their students within their classrooms demonstrating effective approaches and techniques shown to improve reading instruction.  The nominator may be a colleague, a student, or the nominee himself/herself.

The application must include the following items:  

  1. Educational Background and Career Summary (maximum two-page vita.)
  2. A brief statement, prepared by the nominee that speaks to the candidate’s beliefs and practices in educating teachers.
  3. Maximum of three (3) letters of recommendation. At least one should come from a public school teacher.
