The Alaska State Council on the Arts (ASCA) and the Alaska Humanities Forum (AKHF) are pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the 2016 Governor’s Awards for the Arts and Humanities.
The arts awards are offered in the following categories: Margaret Nick Cooke Award for Alaska Native Arts and Languages, Business Leadership, Arts Advocacy Award and Individual Artist.
The Award for Distinguished Service to the Humanities is open to all those who have contributed to the humanities in Alaska. The Alaska Studies Educator of the Year Award is open to any instructor of of Alaska History and Cultural Studies, Alaska History or Alaska Studies (semester or year-long course) who has taught the subject a minimum of two years. (Years need not be consecutive.) More information available here.
Eligibility is open to any individual, organization or institution that has made a significant contribution to the arts and humanities in Alaska, with the exception of current ASCA Council members, AKHF Board members, staff or prior Award recipients. A list of prior awardees can be found here.
The extended deadline for nominations is Monday, September 28, 2015.
The awards will be presented at the Governor’s Awards for the Arts and Humanities to be held in Juneau on Thursday, January 28, 2016. Award recipients will be selected by the Alaska State Council on the Arts, the Alaska Humanities Forum and the Office of the Governor, based on nominees submitted by the public.
