Children who have experienced significant trauma throughout their lives do not respond to “business as usual” behavioral techniques.  Challenging behavior can be a contributing variable to teacher and student stress as well as teacher burnout.  Children with trauma can respond to behavioral interventions; however, the efficacy of these interventions is completely dependent on relational variables.  Participants will leave this class with an overview or neuropsychology as it pertains to trauma, developmental implications of trauma, reframing of intervention-resistant behavior, interventions for addressing social and emotional deficits from an experiential vantage point (plus much more)!

The most important factor in student achievement is the teacher in the classroom; therefore, curriculum and pedagogy are only as good as the person teaching it. The first three years of teaching are undoubtedly the most difficult. After the first year, new teachers may question whether education is the right profession for them. I Survived the First Year...Now What? takes teachers through the six phases every new or first-year teacher goes through (anticipation, survival, disillusionment, rejuvenation, reflection, and second anticipation). New teachers will reflect, network, and apply the skills, strategies, and knowledge to move away from survival and toward becoming a flourishing educator (this course is designed for newer teachers with 1-5 years of teaching experience).

QPR Trainings

Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training: QPR (Questions, Persurade, Refer)

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer -- 3 simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Course content also includes CCSD suicide prevention policy and recommendations for educators.

This course meets the requirements for suicide prevention training required under the Jason Flatt Act.

**The Jason Flatt Act requires eight-hours every four years.  Therefore, you can use this course to meet some of those required hours even if you have already completed the QPR course in the past.

Each Course is approximately 2 weeks.

Basic Custodial Training will be held Mon, Wed, and Fri. Each class will be 1.5 hour long. Classes will be offered from 1:30-3:00 pm and will be held at ESC. Each class will have a maximum of 15 custodians. We wish for everyone to succeed and have the tools they need to complete the course; so separate a class will be held for those that will need a translator. Rani; the trainer of the course is not bilingual, so a translator will be requested for the class. That class size will be limited to 10 custodians.

Once custodians sign up they must complete and pass the course fully to get the credit needed for the monetary incentive. Custodians must sign up one week prior to the course starting. No one will be able to sign up after the first day of the course.
