Thank you for your interest in becoming a foster parent! To be considered for fostering cats, you must: Be 21 years of age • Have the knowledge and consent of all adults living in your household • Have a valid ID with current address • Have the knowledge and consent of your landlord • Understand that The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City must approve your application before a pet is placed in your care.
As a foster parent, you may have an animal in your care for a short period of time (1 week) or an extended period of time (as many as 3 months or more). The approximate length of time is determined on a case by case basis depending on the needs of the animal and the length of time you indicate you are able to foster. However, this amount of time is subject to change depending on circumstances at the shelter. If you know that you will be on vacation or otherwise unavailable during the period of time you are being asked to foster, please let us know as soon as possible. This will allow us to find the most suitable temporary accommodations for your animal.
As a foster parent, we want you to know that it is occasionally necessary to euthanize animals that have been in foster care. Although this is an option of last resort for terminal illness or severe behavioral reasons, it does occur.
