ILA Children’s and Young Adult Book Awards

The International Literacy Association (ILA) Children's and Young Adult Book Awards are given for an author's first or second published book written for children or young adults (birth to 17 years).

Awards are given in three categories: Primary, Intermediate, and Young Adult for fiction and nonfiction works. Books from all countries and published in English for the first time during the 2023 calendar year will be considered. At this time, self-published books are not eligible.

Note: Please be sure to review all the requirements on the form before starting to ensure you have all required information.

Submission Timeline

  • Open Date: August 1, 2023 
  • Submission Deadline: November 1, 2023
  • Applicants are notified of the results via email by early June 2024.

SHIPPING BOOKS

Important Shipping Information

You will be asked to provide one copy of each book submitted to all committee members for the category to which the book was submitted (i.e., Primary, Intermediate, Young Adult).

Books must be shipped to committee members within 10 days of the submitter receiving the mailing list, which will be provided once your submission's eligibility is confirmed by ILA. (If you have not received the addresses within 3 business days, please email ILAAwards@reading.org.)
