2017-2018 First Year Breakout Trip Leader Application

Application Due: Sunday, October 8th at 11:59 PM, EST

Breakout Princeton is a student-driven program that gives students the opportunity to spend their academic breaks engaging with domestic social issues through immersion in communities. Breakout Princeton is not only a terrific way to engage a public issue you care about, but is also a great leadership development opportunity. Breakout Leaders receive regular peer mentorship from Breakout Board members and guidance from Pace Center staff before, during and after the trip. Along the way you’ll learn about leadership in the public sphere from community partners, grassroots activists, government officials, nonprofit leaders, academics, Princeton alumni and many others. At each stage you will be supported in exploring the issue at the heart of your trip and reflect on what it means to be an active citizen and an effective public leader.

Breakout Princeton is accepting applications for First Year leaders to develop a trip dedicated to Unpacking Gentrification within the Trenton community. This trip topic idea came directly from Pace Center Trenton community partners. This trip will be comprised of two First Year trip leaders and ten First Year participants. The trip is set to depart Spring Break 2018.

In an effort to make Breakout Princeton accessible to all students, the Pace Center for Civic Engagement has eliminated participant and trip leader fees for all Breakout Princeton Trips! Furthermore, In reviewing applications, we strive to make each trip representative of Princeton’s diversity. We welcome all backgrounds and identities. We encourage applicants to share however much of their story they are comfortable with, knowing that Breakout is a place where they will be heard.
