Townsville City Council is calling for Expressions of Interest from different restaurants and community groups around Townsville, for the opportunity to participate in the food aspect of Great Australian Bites. This will include working closely with local multi-cultural community groups in recreating/redesigning traditionally cooked food.
Great Australian Bites partnership objectives:
- To raise awareness, interest and participation in Australia Day celebrations
- To give local residents and visitors an entertaining, affordable and relaxed day out to celebrate Australia Day
- To showcase local produce and culinary and musical talent in an outdoor environment, making the most of Queensland's summer weather
- To give local producers the opportunity to gain exposure and educate the community about their produce
- To give local musical performers an opportunity to showcase their talents and build their profile
- To develop and encourage community harmony in regional areas throuhgout Queensland
- To deliver a well-executed event that is positively received by the community

Great Australian Bites aims at delivering the best Queensland has to offer to the Townsville community. Specifically, the use of local produce is a major deciding factor, as well as affordability, with no tasting plate costing more than $10. We encourage the inclusion of smaller menu items.
Restaurants will be expected to supply their own cooking equipment, ingredients and serving materials, and council will provide a tent, tables, fire equipment (extinguishers/ blankets) and power for each of the restaurant stalls, as well as a shared cold room (one between two stalls) and ice.
