Would you like to join the Fringe Force and be part of the team that brings to you North Queensland’s biggest arts and cultural festival?!?  We are seeking volunteers for a variety of roles ranging from onsite set-up, show assistance, mascot appearances and more.

Please fill out the following fields with your availability and where you’d like to assist.

Volunteer requirements
You need to meet the following requirements to be a volunteer for the Northern Fringe Festival. 
You must:
  • be at least 18 years old
  • have a moderate fitness level
  • be able to safely bend, squat, twist and turn
  • be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • have a positive attitude, communicate well and be able to take direction
  • have access to transport to attend scheduled volunteer shifts
  • be free from drugs and alcohol and agree to undertake random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Council’s zero tolerance Drug and Alcohol Policy.

Volunteer details
Are you a JCU Student enrolled in the Event Management Subject? *
Do you have a vehicle, or do you rely on Public Transport? *
Please indicate when you may be available. We have generalised the hours to make it easy. 
If you are only available for a couple of hours on certain days, please specify. 
Business Hours - 08:00am - 05:00pm
After Hours - 05:00pm - Midnight

Volunteer Tasks

Below outlines the different roles and tasks the team is looking to fill with volunteers. 

General Onsite:

  • Need to be able to safely lift 10kg
  • Assist with putting up signs and banners
  • Setting up equipment such as hygiene stations, tables, dressing rooms etc. 
  • Helping staff with collecting equipment (Shopping)
  • General tasks involved with bumping in & out of venues and sites
  • Required to interact with the public in a friendly manner
  • Assist in selling merchandise items
  • General site enquiries such as location of tents, toilets, first aid etc. 
  • Assist staff while they process ticket purchases


  • Required to interact with the public in a friendly manner
  • Actively ask people to take a short survey
  • Able to use tablet (Samsung or apple)
  • Ability to stand and walk for majority of their shift

Show Assistance

Some of our shows and performances need volunteers to assist. Each show requires different things, so volunteers must be:

  • Able to interact in a friendly manner with the public
  • Able to stand and walk the majority of their shift
  • Able to take instruction well 

Mascot Appearance

  • Required to wear full-body mascot costume and interact with public
  • Need to be close to 170cm tall to fit the suit
  • Physically able to wear a large suit that causes sweating
  • Must hold a current suitability card (Blue Card)


  • Must hold open C class licence
  • Be confident in driving and navigating vehicles onsite and around Townsville
  • Will assist staff in collecting artists and their equipment from their accommodation and delivering them to site
