2021-2022 IGNITE Confirmation Registration for 7th & 8th Graders

Why do we do this?

Confirmation ministry at Faith Lutheran is one of the most important elements of our faith formation program.

Students in 7th, 8th and 9th Grade are on the edge of independence. They are ready to think for themselves and learn and absorb the lessons of the Bible, to evaluate and experience how God is with each and everyone of them in everyday life. One of our themes underneath all of confirmation will be to look at how we can apply the spiritual practices of our baptismal promises in our everyday life.

Putting it together

Even though students who participated in BYG have gotten a foundation in learning about the Bible, we'll be looking at the Bible in a whole new way in Confirmation! We'll use the Bible to explore the big questions of life: Who are we? Why are we here? What is the meaning of life? We'll answer each question by looking at Jesus' life and ministry in the context of a section of the Hebrew Bible: Torah (Who are we?), the Prophets (Why are we here?), and the Wisdom literature (What is the meaning of life?) Each unit will have a spiritual practice for students to practice together and explore with their trusted adults.

Mentor Contact Information

Mentoring is a time-honored way of passing faith down from one to another. A mentor is a wise and trusted teacher/counselor. Ignite Confirmation at Faith includes this faith tradition which is designed to enhance a young person's faith by having intentional discussion of faith with a Christian adult who is typically not the student's primary caregiver.
For Ignite students, a mentor should be someone who meets the following criteria:
1) Chosen by the student and approved by the parent.
2) At least 21 years of age
3) An active Christian; from any church
4) Is willing to be influential in the life of a young person.
This could be a new experience for students. Parents are encouraged to work with the student choosing a mentor. Remember, it is the student's responsibility to invite the adult into the mentoring relationship with them.
Throughout the year, mentors and students will need to meet for at least one service project and three more times for prepared sessions that explore faith and life. Each session may be done with other mentors and students, over dinner, or any way that best nurtures the relationship.
A Mentor Handbook and Lessons can be found on the Faith website, under Ignite resources.

Parent Volunteer Roles

**This year, volunteer roles may look different. Shane will update families as more information becomes available.**

The parent’s role in faith formation must not be overlooked!  Studies have proven that the influence of a parent is the most present and important influence. Whether we like it or not parents, our children are watching us and taking their cues from us.

Faith is seeking volunteers to lead and guide these students along their journey of faith.  Volunteers will be trained and supported. The time spent in small groups will follow a similar pattern each week.  Small Group Guides and students, together, will come to know what to expect and how to relate to one another. Each small group will become a “Faith family” - a group of church friends that grows and learns together. Our goal will be to have groups of six - eight kids with at least two-deep leadership. Meaning that there should be two adult leaders for each small group. Invite your friends to assit you!

With this, the list of parents for each group will be the substitute list for that small group.

If you cannot be a Small Group Guide, there are plenty of other opportunities. We at Faith, expect that each parent will support the Small Group Guides, their students and the church. There are plenty of other opportunites in which you can do this.

Game leaders, musicians, snack providers, drivers, service project helpers, special project leader/assistant and so much more!

Please let us know how you can help out this next year.

If you are unable to be a Small Group Guide, in what other areas could you be able to assist with Confirmation?
