Mentoring is a time-honored way of passing faith down from one to another. A mentor is a wise and trusted teacher/counselor. Ignite Confirmation at Faith includes this faith tradition which is designed to enhance a young person's faith by having intentional discussion of faith with a Christian adult who is typically not the student's primary caregiver.
For Ignite students, a mentor should be someone who meets the following criteria:
1) Chosen by the student and approved by the parent.
2) At least 25 years of age
3) An active Christian; any church
4) Is willing to be influential in the life of a young person.
5) Mentors should be someone from Faith Lutheran Church, preferably.
This could be a new experience for students. Parents are encouraged to work with the student choosing a mentor. Remember, it is the students responsibility to invite the adult into the mentoring relationship with them.
Throughout the year, mentors and students will need to meet for at least one service project and three more times for prepared sessions that explore faith and life. Each session may be done with other mentors and students, over dinner, or any way that best nurtures the relationship.
A Mentor Handbook and Lessons will be supplied to mentors. This will be available on-line by Aug 1.
